Can we use the word 'INTIMATE' in business communication[email]?

Recently i faced this scenario.

when i used the word 'intimate'[ ie., to inform] in business communication with my manager, some of my co-workers suggested me not use the word at work/Business.

i was aware of the other meanings of the word and i used the Verbal form only.

Do you really think what i did was wrong??

One can not know what others have in their minds ! So if there happens to be someone who is offended with the use of the word, s/he has to tell it, and you could simply tell that you had no such aim in using that word other than its first meaning. After all, the important thing is to make the business run smoothly and have whatever you have to do done.

If s/he does not tell nothing though offended, then leave them alone with their assumptions. They have to grow up to learn to communicate !
Reply:yes, you should have used- "imply" instead
